Self Study & Meditation

St. Michael’s Meditation Booklet
This Lenten meditation booklet offered by the Renk Ministry Partnership offers readings taken from the Revised Common Lectionary for the 2008 church year. The booklet is the result of the combined efforts from our partners in Renk and the people of St. Michael's. How better to reach out to each other and our surrounding communities than by taking time to read, reflect and pray! Let us pray for peace and for the deepening and strengthening of our companions' faith as we journey side by side on the road to Easter. Booklets will be available for each household and can be picked up outside the Community room.

Paths to Confirmation, Reception, and Reaffirmation

Sr. High Confirmation
Confirmation students will meet in the Sturtz House and will also work with an unrelated adult who will serve as a mentor through the time of confirmation. As a part of the classes, students will also participate in the 30-Hour Famine (February 22-23) and in an outreach trip to Jesus People, USA/Cornerstone Community Outreach. Contact Kevin Kasper at 847-381-2323 ext. 15, or e-mail kkasper@stmichaelsbarrington.org.

Wednesday Evening Supper & Study
This three-week study series begins with a light supper at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room and is followed at 7:15 p.m. by one of two concurrent programs below.
Wednesdays, February 20-March 5
6:30-8:30 p.m.

  • Study Option 1: God in the Movies / This study offers discussion of previously viewed movies. It is helpful but not essential to view the movies in advance. Only small portions of the movies will be shown during the discussions of The Big Kahuna, The Mission and The Passion of the Christ. Some copies of the movies are available by contacting Nerissa Brueckbauer, Formation Associate 847-381-2323, ext. 33. Facilitator: Fr. Johnson.
  • Study Option 2: Words of Truth, Words of Life / This is an intergenerational (appropriate for first graders to adult) Lenten study program based on Jesus’ words from the Cross. The words Jesus spoke as he hung on the cross are among the most significant ever spoken. During his time of deep suffering and pain, Jesus shows us honest emotions – courage, despair, dignity, and acceptance. Our love for him grows even greater as we watch him face death and sacrifice. Bible study, discussion, integration into our lives and prayer will be used in this program. Facilitators are Robin Darrow and Nerissa Brueckbauer. Contact Nerissa Brueckbauer, Formation Associate 847-381-2323 ext. 33.
