Nicholas Alvin Johnson Scholarship
Nicholas Johnson
was born on August 1, 1981 to Alvin and Vickie Johnson. When he was
4½ years old he contracted a form of common leukemia. Through
the wonders of modern medicine, his disease went into remission within
thirty days, but the treatments continued for nearly two years before
the disease return. He then traveled to Iowa City, Iowa where he received
a bone marrow transplant. All things seemed to be working well when
the disease returned again in November of 1988. This time, Nicholas
chose, with his parents support, to enjoy life for the time he had left.
He died during the early morning hours of March 18, 1989.
Nicholas was 7½
years old when he died. He was a strong and a smart young man. He was
also courageous. He loved playing video games, especially Combat. He
ate Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and his Mom's excellent chocolate chip
cookies. He loved his sister Hannah and his friends. He especially loved
his mom and dad. He was dedicated to enjoying life as fully and as completely
as possible. This scholarship honors his life.
