Title: Director
of Music Ministries
Position Description:
St. Michael's Episcopal
Church, Barrington, Illinois, is seeking a full-time Director of Music
Ministries to lead the parish into a new era of musical and spiritual
growth, grounded in the Episcopal tradition and based on the church's
newly created music vision.
The successful
candidate will::
- oversee and direct
musical groups (currently two adult, handbell, and youth choirs) projects
and initiatives including recruitment, scheduling and fundraising.
- develop and
promote in-house musical events and education, community outreach
and external ministry initiatives.
- serve as member
of the church leadership team led by the Rector, the vestry, and Associates
for Community Life, Worship, Formation, and Operations
- give counsel,
arrange and provide music for worship services, ministries and special
functions including weddings and funerals.
- develop and
adhere to annual music budget
- maintain the
music library and all related records and reports pertaining to music
licensing and use of music resources.
- keep abreast
of current music methods, materials, promotions and administration,
using them to enhance church growth and development.
The successful
candidate will have the following qualifications:
- education and
experience in choral conducting
- ability to lead
choral and instrumental musicians and play keyboards; the director
may supervise and occasionally substitute for the organist.
- proven ability
to recruit and empower volunteers of all music ministries
- education and/or
experience in arts administration is desired along with accreditation
in church music
- experience with
building and executing a music ministry strategy with both short and
long-term goals is a strong plus
- training in
anti-abuse and anti-racism through the Diocese of Chicago will be
required unless the successful candidate has already been certified.
