“Be Smart” Training: A conversation about kids, guns, and safety

Free “Be Smart” Training: A conversation about kids, guns, and safety

November 13 7pm

The Be SMART campaign promotes responsible gun storage and asks all adults to take simple steps to reduce the harm that can occur when unsupervised children get ahold of an unsecured firearm.

Every year, nearly 300 children age 17 and under gain access to a gun and unintentionally shoot themselves or someone else, and nearly 500 more die by suicide with a gun. Many of these deaths are entirely preventable with responsible gun storage. We know we can keep our kids safer by introducing these five easy steps to parenting and everyday life:

S - Secure guns in homes and vehicles.

M - Model responsible behavior.

A - Ask about unsecured guns in other homes.

R - Recognize the risks of teen suicide.

T - Tell your peers to be SMART.

Join a brief presentation to learn about the Be SMART campaign. The BeSMART campaign promotes responsible gun storage and asks all adults to take simple steps to reduce the harm that can occur when unsupervised children get ahold of an unsecured firearm.  This will be held at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church Community Room on 11/13/18 at 7PM. The public is invited to this free event.

This BeSMART program has been presented in over 40 states and has had audiences that include PTO, MOPS, Chief of Police Association Meetings, Safe Kids Worldwide, and homes across the U.S.

BeSMART is an adult presentation.  Experienced individuals with knowledge of firearm safety will provide an interactive learning experience and be able to answer questions.
