happy birthday instagram story collage

Each week that we have been back in person we have seen an increase in attendance. Last Sunday, we had 17 participants between Zoom and in person. How great is that! The teachers and I have been making adjustments each week to accommodate both groups. Since this a new style of teaching for the Sunday school, we will continue to adapt our appropriate teaching styles for the children in person and Zoom. We have seen an increase with our youngest students in person and have seen an age gap between kids on Zoom vs In person. We will be trying something different this week. One teacher will be dedicated to Zoom and another for in person. For example, we will be digging into some bible usage and looking up verses in a fun game style with the older kids on Zoom and in person , and keeping the younger in person with more age appropriate lessons. In the past we would split up into 3 classrooms with 3 different lessons from Living the Good News, Pre-K, Primary and Intermediate. Now that we have a variety of age levels in the group, these levels will be implemented once more for classroom management.

What I do know is St. Michael’s wants to continue to offer both options for our families. We also want to allow for flexibility for attending Church. The community room option for families not signed up for the Nave is also working out fantastic. After the Sunday school lesson the children and teachers have been joining the parents sitting in the community room. However, our staff is still having discussions on how to have communion in the community room. Like Sunday school, our 10 am service is almost to capacity of 50 in the Nave. So we need to keep these two groups separate for social distancing protocol. This is a work in progress. I am confident between Father Jesse, Deacon Tim, Altar Guild, and myself we will develop a workable solution this week for community room communion.

The May supply packets will ready this Sunday. Be sure to grab your child’s packet after service or pick up out of the designated container in front of church before Sunday, May 16th.
